Wired

During the night between Christmas day and Boxing day a very stormy weather arrived to Scandinavia and cut electricity from hundred thousands households. In days like these you realize how dependent we are on electricity. Almost everything needs it. In good old times one could at least photograph without needing maybe anything else but a battery for light meter. Although, I had a few Selenium light meters just in case.

  1. Coincidently, that hapened in my town as well! ๐Ÿ˜† . It interrupted my Christmas special download causing it to take nine hours to download 550MiB! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ .

No, it caused me to stay up all night nursing and coaxing some sort of bandwidth out of the network! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ .The download was going fine, even after the power failure. But my netbook battery eventually died and I had to wait for the power to return to continue the download. But then the network started messing about and I was being governed down to around 10MiB/s :irked: . And evry few minutes, the signal would jam altogether and I'd have to power down and reboot to re-establish a new signal! :awww: .(this is a quirk of mobile 3G and dynamic IP addresses. If the signal is interrupted or goes dormant for more than a second, the IP address is re-assigned and your connection becomes a 'ghost'. i.e. Your equipment thinks it's still connected but the network's equipment simply ignores all packet requests from you!)

They wouldn't do much good in Finland right now, would they.

My problem lately has been the cold and rain but it's entering into a warm cycle now.

  5. I almost ran into that problem doing updates the other day, qlue.Mine gets interrupted all the time. I have to use the tether, the 4G hotspot won't work. It's much better where I'm at right now. I just ate a hamburger and am on WiFi, I think, it's showing both and isn't amazingly faster but seems so.

Sad to hear ๐Ÿ˜ฆ We have had some issues with network provider and I have learned to just wait till they fix it. When network outage starts I just call them and say: "Fix it!" Then they sends SMS when it is fixed.Originally posted by Frlmnk:

That's true. Only something like 6 hours sun light if it is not cloudy, which has been case for weeks. Yesterday sun finally showed its pretty face.

  7. How do you stay sane with only six hours sunlight? :insane: .At least it explains why there's so many computer geeks in that part of the world! ๐Ÿ’ก .

  8. My problem is keeping up with my own schedule these days. Just had a cold stretch unaccounted for in my strategy. I should have seen it coming 6 months ago. ๐Ÿ˜†

    We don't

  10. Thanks Sami. At least my bookmarks all sync now if I ever get around to it.Maybe by spring.

  11. Sami, I also found that Operamini is a little unpredictable with bookmarks. :left: .But it generally works for me. .I don't use bookmarks anymore anyway. I found that I've accumulated hundreds of bookmarks for river that I just don't visit anymore and clearing it all out is just too much effort. :faint: .

Not just insultated? Oops, I mean, insulated. Unless they really need to pant, then it's Milton Berl.

I have only few bookmarks for Web sites I need to get fast, e.g. timetables for public transportation.
